Dr. DeLeon is a native of Corpus Christi, Texas. He attended Texas A&M University Kingsville where he graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Biology. He then went on to pursue his Medical Degree at University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. Following his graduation from medical school, he completed an internship in General Surgery at the UT Health Science Center San Antonio and went on to finish a residency in Anesthesiology at Rush Medical Center in Chicago. Dr. DeLeon was then selected for a fellowship in Pain Medicine where he received comprehensive training in both interventional and medical management of pain.
Dr. DeLeon treats a wide variety of pain conditions including both acute and chronic back and neck pain, complex regional pain syndrome or RSD, as well as pain caused by cancer. He is board certified in both Anesthesia and Pain Medicine. He is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, North American Neuromodulation Society, Texas Medical Association, and the Bexar County Medical Society.
He is happily married to his wife, the former Danielle Ely. They have two wonderful children, Olivia Rose DeLeon and Arnold DeLeon, and two dogs, Fawkes and Cooper.
Dr. DeLeon’s goals are to provide the highest quality of medical care to his patients and to ensure his patients understand their disease process which will enable them to play an integral role in the treatment decision making process. His ultimate goal is to improve his patient’s pain, function, and overall quality of life. As a patient, you can expect to be treated in a timely manner with patience and respect.
Jay Ellis, M.D.
Dr. Ellis has been a practicing Pain Management physician and anesthesiologist for over 30 years. After his anesthesiology residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center, Dr. Ellis completed his pain management fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center-San Antonio. He served in the Air Force for 24 years, achieving the rank of Colonel. His duties included Chairman and Residency Program Director at Wilford Hall Medical Center and Chief Consultant for Anesthesiology to the Surgeon General of the Air Force. Dr. Ellis practiced medicine on five of the seven continents, with his last Air Force deployment being in support of Special Forces in the Philippines during Operation Enduring Freedom. During his Air Force career, he received several awards, including election to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the Outstanding Graduate in Anesthesiology, the Gold Headed Cane Award for the physician who best exemplifies excellence in clinical care, teaching and research and the Excalibur Award presented by the Society of Air Force Clinical Surgeons in recognition of his professionalism and commitment to military medicine.
Dr. Ellis is dedicated to furthering the specialty of pain management. In addition to his Board Certification in both Anesthesiology and Pain Management, he is a Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology and Pain Management at the University of Texas Health Science Center-San Antonio. He served the American Board of Anesthesiology as a test question author and oral board examiner. He is a member of several medical societies and professional organizations including the International Spine Intervention Society, North American Neuromodulation Society, the International Anesthesia Research Society and the American Society of Anesthesiologists. He maintains an interest in clinical research and he has been the principal investigator for several pain management studies and an invited speaker on pain management topics. He was recognized by “Best Doctors in San Antonio” for both anesthesiology and pain management.
Dr. Ellis treats all chronic pain complaints, but he has special interests in the treatment of cancer pain, interventional management of back pain, and the management of nerve pain due to neuropathy. As a cancer survivor, Dr. Ellis has a special appreciation of the suffering and difficulties produced by chronic pain and illness.

Bryan Lai, M.D.
- Dual Board-Certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Management
Dr. Bryan Lai is a dual board-certified physician in Interventional Pain Medicine and Anesthesiology. As a Dallas, Texas native, Dr. Lai went on to attend medical school at Texas A&M Health Science Center. Following medical school, he completed his Anesthesiology residency at UT Houston, and subsequently an Interventional Pain Management fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where he served as Chief Fellow. He then became an assistant professor of Anesthesiology, where he taught Acute and Chronic Pain, before joining the River City team.
Dr. Lai focuses on interventional procedures to help patients reduce and even stop the narcotic medication from their pain regimen. He has a special interest in Spine & Joint pain.
Dr. Lai enjoys spending time with his wife Rachel, their daughter Madelyn, and their English bulldog Maggie. When he is not working, you can find him mountain biking, hiking, and enjoying the outdoors.
Michael Hunter, M.D., M.B.A.
Dr. Hunter is a native of Lafayette, Louisiana. He attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where he received his degree in Biology, before going on to pursue his Medical Degree at St. Martinus University Medical School. From there, he completed his intern year in General Surgery at Vidant Medical Center and his residency in anesthesiology at UT Houston, while simultaneously earning a Masters in Business Administration, Healthcare Management from Davenport University. Dr. Hunter completed his residency and went on to become an Interventional Pain Management Fellow at St Elizabeth’s Medical Center, Tufts School of Medicine, where he received comprehensive training in interventional and medical management of pain.
Dr. Hunter is Dual Board-Certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Management. He has had extensive training in minimally invasive interventional spinal procedures, neuro-modulation including spinal cord stimulation, Dorsal root ganglion stimulation, peripheral nerve stimulation, Kyphoplasty, Intrathecal drug delivery systems, medication management and much more. He is a member of the North American Neuromodulation Society, World Academy of Pain Medicine Ultrasonography, Spine Interventional Society, Texas Society of Anesthesiologists, American Society of Anesthesiologists and the American College of Physicians.
In his spare time, Dr. Hunter is incredibly passionate about health and fitness, and loves to travel and participate in outdoor activities. Dr. Hunter is committed to helping his patient’s achieve a better quality of life. He works with each patient individually to ensure they feel heard and their needs are met.

Alissa Robbins, PA-C
- Physician Assistant-Certified
Alissa Robbins PA-C, Certified Physician Assistant, graduated from the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio where she earned a Masters of Physician Assistant Studies. Prior to receiving her PA degree, Alissa graduated from St. Mary’s University with a Baccalaureate of Science in Exercise and Sports Medicine. She has been with River City Pain Management since 2016. Alissa is board certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and is licensed by the Texas Medical Board. Her natural compassion and ability to listen to patients’ needs allow her to deliver excellent patient care. She continues to expand her knowledge base and expertise through frequent Continuing Medical Education conferences. At River City Pain Management, we treat the whole person. We work with the patient to develop a comprehensive, individualized treatment plan. Alissa can perform interventional procedures such as joint injections as well as trigger point injections. She can also recommend psychological therapies, medication management, co-management with physical therapy, chiropractic care, and occupational therapy, as well as lifestyle modification. When she is away from the office, Alissa enjoys the outdoors, staying active, and spending time with her husband David and their adorable daughter Everlee.
